In 1929, J.M. Barrie gave all of his rights in Peter Pan to his favorite charity-- Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. Whenever anyone staged a production of the play or bought a copy of Peter Pan and Wendy, the hospital-- NOT Barrie, received the proceeds. Marking that work's centenary, in 2004 the hospital held a competition to find, among authors all over the world, someone to continue Peter's adventures in Neverland.--How this book came about, page [ix]
